Groove Awards 2018 promises to be more exciting for fans

For the first time, members of the public will be allowed to take part in the nomination process of the annual Groove Awards.

This is a major break from tradition over the last 12 years in the country only gospel awards.

According to organizers, the 13th edition of the Groove Awards that brings together various Kenyan gospel artistes, industry stakeholders and fans will have the chance to nominate their favorite artistes in various categories.

This will be a new experience for the fans, unlike previous years when they have just been involved in the voting process only.

The most nominated artistes will then make it on the nominations list which will be unveiled in a red-carpet event and voting will open shortly after.

VOTING PROCESS

The public will then again have a chance to vote for their favorite artistes with the eventual winners to be unveiled and celebrated at the awards gala slated for June 23. In the past editions, winners have always been unveiled on June 1.

The changes of the gala date has been brought up by the fact that members of the public will be allowed to take part in the nomination process that will run for a whole week starting on Wednesday May 23 to 31 May.

Besides the nomination, there will also be the period of voting as well as the Groove tour that also takes place to publicize the awards leading to the major event.

The changes made could be as a result of the organizers wanting to reduce numerous complaints which have previously been lodged, some accusing the nomination panelists of being biased.

Last year, for instance, Size 8 went home empty handed despite having the most nominations. She made the nominees shortlist for Female Artiste of the Year, Song of The Year (Pale Pale) and Video of The Year categories.
