Growing number of rejected votes set tongues wagging
Rejected votes captured in presidential votes tallying for 5455 polling stations was 44357, making them the “third candidate” in the race.
The number kept increasing as votes from the different polling stations streamed in online.
Speculations online by users over if voter education was to blame or the mere lack of seriousness by some voters was thrive.
Users questioned why any voter would queue for hours and mark the ballot paper in the wrong way.
Other users accused IEBC officials present in the polling stations for not helping voters do the right thing.
Here are some of the reactions to the increasing number of rejected votes;

Ha! So far ‘rejected votes’ comes in at a distant number 3 with 44,357 votes with 8.24% of the votes counted. Should have been a candidate!?

We need more voter education. I felt that today. The high number of rejected votes streaming in is another indicator. #ElectionsKE2017

Why are there so many rejected votes? Were people just writing ‘tibim’ and ‘tano tena’ in the ticking space? #ElectionKE2017

Rejected votes at the presidential level and also in seats at the lower level are higher than I would love to see.

I was personally a voter educator, you teach this, they contradict it in loudspeakers around the ward and top it up with “sugar/unga”
— Lycee Kube (@lycee_madee) August 8, 2017
Interesting…Who are these people who contradicted in loudspeakers?

Our honourable politicians and their campaign teams

You tell them × is a vote, they tell them × indicates that you’ve rejected that aspirant

It is failure by some voters to seek guidance or help at the polling station where they do not either know or understand the process.
