Guard issues warning over Shebesh slap

By ABIUD OCHIENG January 17th, 2014 1 min read

A security guard who was allegedly assaulted by Nairobi Women’s Representative Rachel Shebesh has given the Director of Public Prosecution a week to provide details on investigations into his case.

Mr Kazungu Changawa,  of Watchdog Company, claims he was assaulted by Ms Shebesh on July 17, 2013 at 2pm, but the police have been reluctant to investigate the matter and subsequently charge her.

Through his lawyer Innocent Muganda, he said that should he fail to receive the details or a formal communication, he would sue Mr Keriako Tobiko, the DPP for abuse of office.

“So far efforts by Mr Changawa have been rendered futile and it appears the main reason for failure to institute criminal proceedings against Ms Shebesh is that the office of the DPP is acting as a puppet for the high profile person,” said lawyer Muganda.

The commencement of the proceedings is likely to complicate matters for Ms Shebesh as she will be fighting Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero in the case where she claims he assaulted her in his office.

Mr Changawa said he was the security guard at the Orchid Apartments where Ms Shebesh lives.

He reported the incident at the Kileleshwa Police Station on the same date he alleges he was assaulted.

His claims first became public after Ms Shebesh led a group of striking county government workers in Dr Kidero’s office last September.

This week, Judge David Majanja gave orders stopping both Dr Kidero and Ms Shebesh from being arrested and charged pending the hearing of a case they have separately filed in court.
