Guard of slain pilot sought for questioning

Police are looking for a former guard at the residence of the pilot murdered last week in Karen for interrogation.

The guard had worked at the home of former Kenya Air Force captain David Macharia but was sacked for unclear reasons.

So far police have arrested the pilot’s former wife and maternal uncle for questioning.

Lang’ata OCPD Titus Yoma on Monday said the uncle, Mr Andrew Ng’ang’a Wanjukira, who is the Thika branch ODM chairman, and Ms Joyce Wanjiku Kingaara were still being questioned.

“We have however not yet decided whether they will appear in court,” said the OCPD.

Mr Macharia’s body was found in a septic tank in his compound on Thursday night.

The attackers first called his daughter, Tracy Macharia, and demanded a ransom of Sh3 million.

By Monday, police had not arrested the callers who had used the number 0755-609679 to call.

Detectives are also looking for one of his cars, a firearm, title deeds and other documents said to be missing.

By Monday, police had not recovered one of the pilot’s vehicles, a Toyota Hilux, which went missing from the compound last Thursday night.

“We got the report of the missing vehicle. However we are yet to find it. The vehicle’s particulars have been circulated,’’ said Mr Yoma.

He was also a licensed gun holder but police did not find his firearm. The OCPD however said that he was not aware that the pilot had a firearm.

The law requires that when a person in lawful possession of a firearm dies, the next of kin should inform the local police who will in turn surrender it to the Central Firearms Bureau.

However, a family member desiring to possess it must apply as required by law.

Mr Macharia, 50, retired from the military before he became a commercial pilot at the Wilson Airport.
