Gulf based Kenyan mum proud as daughter scores top marks in KCPE
A woman who performed well in her secondary examinations 12 years ago but did not manage to join university due to lack of school fees and has been working in the Gulf since has expressed her excitement after her daughter scored 408 marks out of a possible in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
Ms Ann Nyanchama, a single mother of three could not hide her joy after her daughter Faith Kemunto scored the marks and was amongst the top pupils in the 2022 examinations.
“This girl of mine has really made me proud, as a mother I even don’t know what to say because she has clearly shown that the future is bright,” Ms Nyanchama said.
She said that she was so sure that her daughter would perform well based on the history of her performance from previous examinations.
Speaking to Nairobi News, the girl identified as Faith Kemunto whose dream is to join Kenya High Girls’ National School in Nairobi County said she wanted to pursue a course in medicine.
She was a pupil at Excel Academy in Kisii.
In English she scored 83%, Kiswahili (82%), Mathematics (81%), Science (80%) and Social Studies and Religious Education (82%) marks.
Kemunto attributed her success to hard work and prayers.
“I could wake up very early in the morning and take most of my time studying the subjects that I had difficulties in,” said the girl who resides with her aunt in Mathare Slums, Nairobi County.
Ms Nyanchama further noted her first born son score 375 marks out of a possible 500 in the national exams he sat two years.
She said her daughter’s performance had made her very proud as a mother and she will work hard in the Gulf to ensure that they get the best education.’
“I never got an opportunity to join university because of financial constraints but my children will not go through the same,” Ms Nyanchama said.
