Did gun-totting intruder intend to kill this Bandari player?
A Kenyan Premier League player has sensationally claimed that a man who stormed the pitch during a game in Kericho on Sunday wanted to kill him.
Bandari defender Felly Mulumba, a Congolese national made the claim on his official Facebook page.
The Kenyan Premier League management is investigating the incident where an armed man stormed a football pitch at full time and confronted a section of players.
The incident happened at the full time of the Kenyan Premier League match pitting hosts Zoo Kericho and Bandari at the Green stadium in Kericho on Sunday.
The man, who is yet to be identified, stormed the pitch moments after the final whistle in the match which ended 1-1.
At that point, there was a physical scuffle involving a select number of players from both teams.
PUSHED
The man then got involved with photos showing him initially getting off from the ground after he’d apparently been pushed.
Subsequent photos show him getting up and reaching for his gun, before being restrained in an incident that has led to questions over the safety of footballers.
“In addition, we will write to the Inspector General of Police to ensure that such an incident where licensed firearm holders enter the pitch doesn’t occur again,” KPL’s statement says.
This is the second gun incident in a Kenyan Premier League match in the past three years.
The other occurred during a game between Ulinzi Stars and AFC Leopards in Mumias where an soldier attached to the Ulinzi team was pictured holding a gun.
