A lone gunman was on Saturday morning shot dead by the police after breaking into a house in Umoja 2 following an unsuccessful attempt to hijack a motorcyclist.

The man shot and wounded the motorcyclist who had refused to let go off his motorcycle.

The injured boda boda operator was rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital where he was admitted.

But members of the public responded to the injured motorcyclist’s distress call and pursued the suspect who run into a nearby house belonging to a certain Ms Victoria Mbinya.

“A stranger run into my house and pointed a gun at me and told me not to scream or he’d shoot me,” Ms Victoria narrated to Nairobi News.

“He told me to open my bedroom door where my two children were still asleep. Then he ordered me to open the back door and close it and remain silent or else he would shoot me through the window. All this time he had the gun pointed at me and my children.”

Victoria she said she did as the suspect ordered before she took her children to a neighbour’s house. The neighbour immediately called the police who arrived within minutes.

The police used the neighbours house to access the back yard where the thug was hiding.

According to police officers at the scene of the incident who spoke to Nairobi News the suspect fired the first shot at the police who returned fire killing him instantly.

A pistol and several rounds of ammunition were recovered from the slain suspect.

When Nairobi News tried to reach Buruburu OCPD for comment he said he was in a meeting and he would call back later.
