Hail Gor Mahia, 2013 champions

Pomp, colour and celebrations were on offer at the Moi Sports Center Kasarani as Gor Mahia were officially crowned the 2013 Tusker Premier League Champions on Sunday night.

The coronation ceremony happened immediately after their match against banker KCB, which they lost 2-0.

This however did not dampen the spirits of the players and the fans who were all waiting for the moment when the trophy would be handed to them.

Gor Mahia players had arrived at the venue clad in grey suits and took a lap of honour in two hired limousines to the cheers of thousands of fans.

And immediately after the final whistle blew, fans went into frenzy which was quite ironical after the team lost.

Never have Gor Mahia fans celebrated when their team has lost but this was indeed a historic day.

Clifford Alwanga broke the deadlock in the 36th minute, before KPL top scorer 15 goals Jacob Keli doubled the lead with a delightful strike three minutes to the end of the first half.

Gor came back strongly in the second half but were unable to break down a well-organized KCB side who moved to fourth place after the win.

However Gor had the last laugh as Captain Jerim Onyango was handed the trophy by former Prime Minister and club patron Raila Odinga flanked by Football Kenya Federation Chairman Sam Nyamweya.

The 18 year old wait was finally over.
