Harambee Starlets meet Winnie Mandela
The national women football team was on Sunday morning hosted to breakfast by iconic South African personality Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.
This was after the Kenyan team lost to their South Africa counterparts by a solitary in an Olympic Games qualifier in Johannesburg on Saturday evening.
“Mama Winnie hosted us for breakfast and really motivated the girls with strong words and advice about facing challenges in life, we are truly humbled,” the team’s coach David Ouma told Nairobi News.
AFRICAN STATESMAN
Madikizela-Mandela is former wife of the late South African President and African statesman Nelson Mandela.
The team requires a win by two clear goals in the return leg match in Nairobi in two weeks’ time to progress to last two rounds of the qualification campaign.
“We missed a number of good chances in the match and we are greatly motivated for the return match back home in Nairobi,” Ouma said.
The team is expected back in the country on Tuesday afternoon.
