Harambee Starlets off to Morocco for Nations Cup camp
The national women team has set up a week long camp in Morocco to prepare for the forthcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
While in North Africa, the Harambee Starlets will also feature in atleast three build up matches against yet to be confirmed opposition – with one of the games likely to be against the host nation.
The Kenyan team, which is handled by coach David Ouma, has been pooled against Ghana, Mali and hosts Cameroon in their debut continental outing.
A total of 24 players, including veterans Vivian Akinyi, Mary Kinuthia, Esse Akida and Neddy Atieno, all of whom impressed as Kenya attained a second place finish at the Cecafa Women Championship in Uganda last month, are part of the travelling party.
“It is an opportunity to fine tune and get our shape back. We also want to have a closer look at the opposition we will be facing at the Nations Cup, then strategise on how to counter them,” Akida said.
Also making the cut are four new players namely, Esther Nandika, Pauline Naise, Purity Nyongesa and Janet Bundi.
