Harambee Stars bench feud ahead of qualifier

Harambee Stars has been hit by wrangles within the technical bench, with head coach Adel Amrouche claiming to have relieved his assistant James Nandwa of his duties for allegedly absconding duty.

According to the Belgian tactician, Nandwa did not report to camp on Tuesday for a training session with 17 local based players who have been named for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Comoros on May 18.

“He did not report for duty as expected and so we are moving on without him. We have to prepare adequately for the qualifiers and we will not allow any distractions to the team,” Amrouche said in a telephone interview with NairobiNews.

However, Nandwa, when contacted, said he had not received any official information and remains the team’s assistant coach to his knowledge.

Both coaches are employed by the local football body which has the final say.

Nandwa, who was last month sacked from AFC Leopards due to poor results on the pitch, has been the team’s assistant coach for three years.

The duo led Kenya to the CECAFA Cup last December, where Kenya beat Sudan 2-0 in the final.
