He picked me up by the roadside, murder suspect says she never knew Eric Maigo
The minor who was arrested in relation to the death of Eric Maigo, the former Chief Finance officer at Nairobi Hospital, has told detectives that she had never met the deceased before the day of his death.
A detective attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), who spoke to Nairobi News in confidence, said the 16-year-old told detectives that she met the deceased by the roadside after she fled her home following a disagreement with her guardian.
“She has said as she was walking away from home she met the deceased who offered to take her to his home which she agreed,” our source said.
Maigo was found murdered at his house on Friday, September 15, 2023. Government pathologist Johansen Oduor said he died of excessive bleeding both internally and externally. The deceased had been stabbed 25 times.
Nairobi News has established that detectives are now planning to visit the spot where the suspect claims she was picked from and also inquire from the guardian on the cause of their difference that led her to flee their Bombolulu home in Kibera Sub-County.
The minor was arrested on Tuesday night and arraigned before the Milimani Law Courts on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 on a miscellaneous application which was filed by an officer attached to Kilimani Police Station.
The court granted the police 21 days to hold the suspect. During that period, mental and age assessments will be conducted on the suspect before she is charged in court.
The minor was arrested on the night of Tuesday, September 26, 2023, within Kibra Sub-County by DCI sleuths after she went into hiding following the murder.
It has also emerged that the minor spent the better part of Tuesday within Kibra Sub-County and was spotted in Olympic and Ayany estates.
At one point she was spotted within the vicinity of Jamhuri Grounds where the Nairobi International Trade Fair is ongoing but she did access the venue.
Meanwhile, the late Maigo will be buried tomorrow (Friday, September 29, 2023) at his home in Keumbu, Kisii County.
