Hero headteacher, policeman who braved floods to be feted
A headteacher and a police officer who waded through flood waters to ensure the safe delivery of KCSE exam materials could soon find themselves in the list of national heroes.
The headteacher of Lairuba Day School Alongo Mutwiri and police officer James Chege were pictured walking through flood waters, with their trousers rolled up, shoes and examination papers clutched in hand, to ensure candidates sat their exams on time.
Their boss Education Secretary Fred Matiang’i is impressed and has written to the Chief of Staff asking for the two to be considered for a recognition award.
“I have written to the Chief of Staff to ask that Principal Along’o and Officer Chege be considered for a Recognition Award. Once more I congratulate and recognise these officials for being exemplary citizens of our great nation KENYA,” wrote Mr Matiang’i on Twitter.
Principal Along'o and Officer Chege demonstrated the commitment of public servants to serve & through this selfless act they have set an example of "service above self" that we should all emulate. Both officials have made their colleagues in Education and Security PROUD! Hongera!

One online user felt that there were other officials manning the KCSE exams who have also gone through extremes but might have never got the chance of being pictured or recorded.
Here is another one worth recognition, I guess there could be others who never got the opportunity to be recorded. pic.twitter.com/UbQFY1wmB6
