Homicide detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have taken over the investigation into the sudden death of acclaimed actor Charles Ouda on Monday, February 4.

The team aims to determine whether the actor was killed or died by suicide and explore the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

The DCI headquarters team visited the scene in Westlands, Nairobi, as part of their comprehensive investigation into the incident.

While the cause of death remains undisclosed, a source told Nairobi News that suicide is among the causes of death under scrutiny.

The circumstances surrounding Ouda’s death, including events leading up to the incident, prompted the involvement of the homicide team.

Insiders reported that the team began their inquiries by speaking to individuals present at the scene.

An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted to establish the exact cause of the actor’s demise.

The 38-year-old actor, known for his roles in popular shows such as “Makutano Junction,” “Junction Junior,” “Second Family,” and “Salem,” appeared to be in good spirits on the last day he was seen alive.

There are also no reports of him suffering from any known ailments, according to those familiar with him.

The actor was last seen attending a party for the cast of Maisha Magic’s “Salem” TV series on the day he died.

His unexpected death has left the entertainment industry and fans in shock.

A family statement, released on behalf of the Oudas and Ciru Muriuki – his fiancee, urged the public to respect their privacy “to grieve this unfathomable loss”.

“It is with deep sorrow that the family of Charles ‘Charlie’ J. Ouda and Ciru Muriuki inform you of his passing on the night of 3rd February 2024. He was a beloved son, brother, and friend. Charlie was 38 years old,” the statement read.

Fellow actor Jackie Matubia expressed her profound grief on Instagram, sharing memories of happier times spent with Charles.

In a series of videos from the previous day, they were seen laughing and enjoying each other’s company, unaware of the tragedy that would soon unfold.

In a video shoot at the wrap party – hours before his death – Ouda addressed his friends with a powerful message, urging them to embrace love amidst life’s challenges.

“Some of us survived the year, but as we survive, I would ask us to remember one thing – we survived, and love is everything. I would ask that we love each other. That we understand that love is no longer in the streets,” he passionately said.

His friends are seen expressing their solidarity by toasting to his speech.
