Horror at dumping of newborns in Tassia
Tassia residents are a worried lot following the rising cases of newly born babies being dumped in the area.
Five babies have been dumped in the estate since April, with residents rescuing two.
According to Margret Karanja, a nurse who operates Mwatate Healthcare Center in the area, the first case happened in April when two newly born babies were found dead at a dumpsite.
Residents suspect they succumbed to the harsh weather conditions.
In May, residents found a baby boy tucked near a garbage area.
A month later, Jane Aluoch Odongo found an abandoned infant at a nearby dumpsite.
The baby-girl, now named Sifa, is at the Thomas Barnados rescue center.
On the August 9, a light thud on the roof jolted 40 year old Wamoyo Ngulu from her sleep. She ignored, presuming it was the usual cat fights.
“It was after Kimotho, our neighbor, alerted us of a crying infant on the roof that we got out,” said Ngulu the caretaker of the plot since 2005.
They were met with the disturbing image of a bloody infant.
