How Baringo student died in horror accident at school

A student at Ruth Kiptui Girls’ High School in Baringo died in a freak accident involving the school bus within the premises.

A police statement indicates the deceased student had her head crashed by a wall at the school game as she was leaning out of the window when the vehicle was moving.

“A student from the school reportedly passed on shortly after attending the ongoing inter-school games. The victim is said to have been peeping through the window when the bus they were travelling in accidentally pressed the victim’s head against the wall of the school gate as they were exiting the gate,” read the statement issued on Monday, August 29, 2022.

The identity of the student is yet to be officially revealed but those who knew her said she hailed from Cheptabach area in Nandi County.

She was set to sit for her Kenya Certificate Secondary Education (KCSE) exams for the successive year as she was not satisfied with her grade in the previous exams.

“She was a form four student the previous year. She attained C+ but failed in mathematics and had decided to go and improve her grade. May she rest in peace,” said one Vincent Kiptoo.

The deceased has been described as a determined and disciplined student who sought to pursue a career in medicine.

Kenyans reacted to the news of the accident.

While some offered their condolences, many called out the negligence of the bus driver and any teachers on board the bus for not controlling the students in their care.

“The results of ignorance of safety rules. That’s how nature controls our population. Very sad. It’s time parents whose children die in such circumstances question the level of attention given to children by their teachers,” said Arthur Macharia.

Our condolences to friends and family.
