How Kenyans cashed in on Safaricom’s Bonga Points hitch
Kenyans on Tuesday went on a mission to cash in after Safaricom had a systems failure on the administration of Bonga Points.
Bonga Points is a loyalty scheme for all Safaricom PrePay and PostPay subscribers. It awards points to registered users for every activity on the network which can be redeemed for rewards.
Safaricom’s system mysteriously tripled subscribers’ Bonga Points on Tuesday.
Swift subscribers redeemed the enhanced points before the telco noticed the glitch.
A tweep who alerted Safaricom of the hitch hours after Kenyans had started spreading word on the “offer” was vilified, with many refering to him as a snitch.
By Wednesday morning, Safaricom had rectified the system failure.
