How Nairobi police officers allegedly robbed motorbike rider of Sh600k

Detectives in Nairobi are investigating an incident in which a police officers over the weekend allegedly blocked a motorbike rider, ordered him to enter a moto vehicle they were in before stealing Sh604, 500 from him.

Mr Jackson Michira, told officers at Spring Valley Police Post, Gigiri Division that he was on his way to deliver the money to their offices at City Park when he was stopped by the occupants of the vehicle who were dressed in police uniform and white caps similar to those worn by traffic police officers.

Speaking to Nairobi News, Mr Michira said that the officers ordered him to stop, accusing him of obstruction as they ordered him to board the vehicle they were in.

“They accused me of obstruction and efforts to negotiate with them bore no fruits as they forcefully left with me and abandoned my motorbike by the roadside,” he said.

In a report seen by Nairobi News, Mr Michira had earlier on in the day been given a bank cheque of Sh604,000 by his boss Mr Feroz Tejan and he was to bank it at a local bank located within the Central Business District.

It was after he had been handed the cash and was on his way back to his work place that he encountered the four men.

“They robbed him of Sh604,500 before dumping him at Shazu Road in Parklands, Nairobi County,” he said in the report.

Mr Michira was not injured during the incident and police have since launched investigations into the matter.

Meanwhile, a woman was robbed of Sh800,000 as she was heading to cash the amount at an M-Pesa agent in Parklands.

According to a police report seen by Nairobi News, Ms Penina Chege lost the money to a motorbike rider who was with a pillion passenger.

“She had just arrived at the roundabout located along Ojijo Road, when two people on a motorbike, whose registration number was concealed snatched her envelope. The scene of crime was visited, necessary action taken but no one has been arrested in relation to the incident,” the police said.

There has been an increase of cases of members of the public being robbed by motorbike riders with pillion passengers.

A week ago, two people riding on a motorbike allegedly stabbed a man at Ridgeways Estate along Kiambu road before snatching a bag from him.

According to police in Muthaiga Station, the man, identified as Mr Keagan Githua, 24, died and his body is at the Kenyatta University Hospital mortuary. The burial date is set for November 9, 2022.
