How Opera browser’s integration with Google’s Gemini AI models has enhanced user experience

Opera browser users will receive more up-to-date information and conversational answers, thanks to the integration of Google’s Gemini AI models into Opera’s existing Aria AI-extension.

This advancement marks a significant leap forward in providing Opera users with cutting-edge AI capabilities directly within their web browsing experience.

Launched last year, Aria serves as an AI assistant designed to perform a variety of tasks such as answering user queries, writing code and performing other functions.

Unlike traditional AI models that rely on a single source, Aria intelligently selects the best AI model for each specific task. With the addition of the Gemini models, Aria can now access the most up-to-date information with improved performance, according to Opera.

The integration is available across all Opera browsers, including the dedicated gaming browser Opera GX, making these advanced features available to a wider audience.

The Gemini AI family comprises several models tailored to different needs. The smallest, Gemini Nano, is optimised for mobile devices, ensuring efficient performance on the move.

For more substantial tasks, Gemini Pro 1.5 and Gemini Pro 1.5 Flash offer mid-range capabilities, while Gemini Ultra is Google’s most powerful model, powering the Gemini chatbot alongside the Pro models.

In addition to information retrieval, Opera users can now benefit from Aria’s ability to read responses aloud in a conversational way. This feature is powered by Google’s text-to-audio AI models, similar to ChatGPT’s Read Aloud feature, providing an immersive and interactive user experience.

This is not the first time Opera has worked with Google’s AI models. In April, Aria launched an image generation feature using Google’s Imagen 2 model, allowing users to create images directly in the browser.
