Detectives alleged that Ms Chania – who in the 2022 General elections contested for the Kiambu Woman Representative seat but lost – is the main suspect in the brutal murder of her husband who worked as an engineer in Rwanda.

He arrived in the country on September 13, 2022, from Rwanda where he invested in the real estate business.

George Mwangi’s home and how he left is since he was reported missing.

Police say that Ms Chania acted out of anger after she found out that her husband and father of their three children was having an affair with another woman.

“The deceased’s wife is suspected to have been assisted by a newly employed casual labourer and other accomplices in committing the cold-blooded murder,” the statement further read.

The relationship between Ms Chania who is now the main suspect in the murder incident and the husband hit rock bottom forcing the woman to spend her time at their Thika home while Mr Mwangi would stay at her five-bedroomed Mang’u residence whenever he was in the country.

Mr Mwangi kicked off a relationship with Ms Lucy Muthoni one of her tenants. The latter was in search of a house to let when they met.

“Their love relationship was no longer a secret as every time the deceased was home, he would be spotted side by side with the woman at local entertainment joints and other social gatherings.

Some of the family members intimated to detectives that the deceased had introduced Lucy to his family as his second wife and she was well known to the extended family,” the statement further read.

On the fateful day of the murder, Ms Muthoni had accompanied the deceased to a family function in Kimunyu where the main suspect was also in attendance.

According to some eyewitnesses, Lucy was on the driver’s wheel of the deceased’s double cabin truck registration number KBY 849M and after the function, they headed back to Mang’u.

The following morning, Ms Muthoni and Mr Mwangi were to go out on a date but he never responded to phone calls.

It is then that Ms Muthoni engaged two of his friends to call him on her behalf but the friends told her that Ms Chania had informed them that he had gone for a walk and left his phone behind.

The main suspect was on the same day spotted driving her husband’s motor vehicle after engaging one of the casual labourers to assist her in carrying a heavy load that was destined for the airport to the back cabin of the truck.
