How twin boy got stolen at KNH as mother was being admitted – PHOTOS
Kenyatta National Hospital has explained the circumstances in which a two-week-old twin boy was stolen while his mother was getting admitted at ward.
Jane Kerubo was in the process of being admitted when she left her twin boys under the care of two Kisii-speaking women in the waiting room.
She developed trust in the women because she is also a Kisii.
Ms Kerubo had delivered the boys at KNH two weeks ago and was discharged. She however developed breathing complications of Sunday night and was brought to the hospital by her husband Job Nyatiti Ouko and sister Naomi Leo at 2am.
Ms Kerubo waited at the reception before seeing a doctor and finally securing an admission at 11:30am.
“Ms Naomi Leo (the sister) requested the ladies to hold the babies for her while she assists her brother-in-law to wheel her sister to the ward,” the hospital’s communications manager Simon Ithai explained in a statement.
RAISE ALARM
“Shortly after they entered the ward, one of the ladies who had one of the babies by the name Lucy Kwamboka, came to the ward claiming that the other lady had disappeared with the other baby and they needed to raise the alarm.” Mr Ithai added.
The KNH security team pursued the woman and found she had escaped using a motorbike.
“We are reviewing the CCTV footage and have given the police the same access. The sister and the husband who saw the lady are helping with investigations.
“The hospital is deeply concerned and is working with the family to get the description of the suspect and with the authorities to ensure the family is reunited with their child,” Ithai wrote.
The father of the twin boys Mr Nyatiti is however questioning the CCTV matter as his pleas to have a screenshot circulated to hunt for the woman have not been heeded.
TRAUMA
“The two women had come in with patients, how is it that there are no records at the information desk to show us who the second woman was? We have requested to be given a screenshot of the footage that can help the public identify the woman since none of us can clearly remember her because we had gone through a lot of trauma from 2am to 11:30am when we were admitted,” Nyatiti told Nairobi News.
The family has circulated a photo of the twin boys urging anyone who spots the one covered in a white baby shawl to call 0700378169/ 0716395978/0704248445 or report to the nearest police station.
