Huge fire breaks out at fuel depot in Industrial Area

Fire fighters on Monday battled a huge inferno at an illegal fuel depot near the Alliance Garments Industries in Industrial Area, Nairobi.

Makadara sub-county Administration Police commander Ishmail Njega has confirmed that no casualties have been reported. Owners of the depot have however fled.

The fire started at around 9:45 am after a generator burst into flames as the operators were pumping fuel into tankers.

The Nairobi News team counted at least five tankers that were burnt. The fire later spread to the nearby Alliance Garments Industries.

“I heard a loud blast and when I came out of my office the tanks were on fire,” said an eyewitness.

By 1pm Monday, the fire was still spreading with a team of fire-fighters from Nairobi County, Kenya Pipeline Company and G4S working to contain it.
