Huge fire razes furniture stalls on Ngong Road – PHOTOS
Property worth millions was on Tuesday night reduced to ashes in an inferno at Pathways next to Racecourse along Ngong Road.
According to witnesses, the fire broke out minutes to 8pm after an electric fault in one of the workshops in the area.
The place is known for its booming furniture business.
Paul Wachira, who is one of the worst affected traders, said the fire started at a workshop which had mattresses before spreading to nearby workshops.
He added that the efforts by the traders to put out the fire were made difficult by the burning mattresses and the flammable paints kept in the various workshops.
“We have lost property worth millions in this fire. Nobody has been able to salvage anything of note, ” he said.
Robert Upara Wambili, another trader, said that two fire engines from Nairobi County arrived at the scene almost an hour later when the fire had razed down many structures.
