National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) on Thursday impounded hundreds of city matatus in a crackdown on motorists flouting traffic rules.
Most of the vehicles were deemed unroadworthy or operating without valid road service licence and insurances.

“The vehicle owners and drivers will be charged accordingly. Those arrested will be prosecuted and their vehicles will have to meet the requirement before they are allowed to operate.”
The operation was conducted in Nairobi and its environs.
Similar operations are ongoing in other parts of the country, the authority said.
