Huruma man in trouble for causing chaos at baby mama’s home

A man who caused chaos at his girlfriend’s grandmother’s house while demanding custody of his child has admitted to charges of creating a disturbance while accusing a police officer of torturing him while in custody at Huruma police station in Nairobi.

Samuel Karanja was charged with creating a disturbance in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace contrary to section 95 (1) of the Penal Code where he is accused of hurling unprintable insults at the 72-year-old woman.

He pleaded guilty to the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Hellen Okwani of the Makadara Law Courts and claimed that police constable Henry Njeru tore his clothes and forced him to sleep on the floor while naked.

He committed the offence in Kiamaiko in Nairobi on September 29, 2023.

He claimed he was locked up at the station for a week where he was beaten up and injured although police documents showed that he was arrested on November 7.

Karanja sought to be taken to hospital claiming he had a broken hand.

His girlfriend and her mother live in the old woman’s house in Kiamaiko and Karanja threw stones at the house while insulting his girlfriend’s cousins telling them he could marry them all.

He was violently demanding to be given a child he got with the baby mama who doesn’t want to get married to him.

Karanja was removed from the neighborhood by members of the public who intervened after the old woman made distress calls.

Okwani remanded him in custody until November 16, 2023 when the matter will be mentioned for the opposition to lay out its case against Karanja before he is convicted and sentenced.

The magistrate issued a treatment order for the suspect to be escorted to the hospital and summoned PC Njeru to appear in court on the same day to respond to the claims made by Karanja.
