I abandoned posh home because my wife wanted to kill me, city scholar

A don on Tuesday claimed in court that he abandoned his palatial home in Nairobi five years ago suspecting his wife was plotting to kill him.
Professor Edward Ng’ang’a Kairu said he had to run for his dear life after getting reliable information that his now estranged wife, Mary Njoki Ndiba, was planning to kill him so as to inherit his estate.
“I was reliably informed that my wife was planning to kill me so that she could take possession of my house in Kileleshwa, a car and two other plots in the outskirts of Nairobi. I abandoned our matrimonial home to save my life,” Professor Kairo stated.
Ms Njoki is accused of forging documents to transfer ownership of a car he had bought her before their marriage hit the rocks.
The don claimed he got the information from a sister- in –law.
“The accused had a conversation with my sister in law Mary Njonjo and she told her that she had reached a point to exterminate me so that she can get possession of my property,” he said.
MATRIMONIAL DISPUTE
This, he stated, happened while a matrimonial dispute was pending before the High Court.
He said that he married Ms Njoki in 2009 when she was pursuing her doctoral studies.
He said after leaving their matrimonial home, Ms Njoki’s lawyer wrote to his lawyer requesting for copies of his identity card and pin number to facilitate her transfer ownership of the car to her name.
“ I declined to give the same. I informed her, through my lawyer, that the issue of he car would be addressed during the matrimonial dispute pending before court,” he stated.
He later learnt that she had transferred the car to herself despite the fact that he had not provided the documents to her.
“I reported the matter to Kileleshwa police station where I had reported the plot to kill me,” he said.
He refuted claims by Ms Njoki’s lawyer that he had given her a duly filled vehicle ownership transfer form.
“It was clear to me, as it is now that I did not provide such a form,” he said.
Mr Wycliffe Onyango, a car dealer told the court that Ms Njoki was Professor Kairo’s witness in a sale agreement.
