I did not pay Sh1.2m for Facebook – Kirinyaga governor

Kirinyaga governor Joseph Ndathi on Thursday denied that his government paid Sh1.2 million to open a Facebook page.

“I am an experienced administrator and not that naïve to allow such a contract. The services contracted for were management of all social media channels — Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and the county website, among others,” said Mr Ndathi.

He said those making the allegations were bent on character assassination.

The governor said the Auditor-General had queried the management of all social media accounts and the county website.

He said the contract, which was open to scrutiny, included covering functions of the county government and the governor to feed social media channels.

He said the coverage included videos, still pictures and content for social media updates.

Mr Ndathi said the contract was entered into in the transition period when the county had no ICT officers but it expired after an ICT director and a communications director were hired in April 2014.
