Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino has responded to Stephen Letoo, the chairman of the Men’s Conference, after he invited the lawmaker to this year’s men’s conference.

Letoo, who doubles up as a media personality, invited the parliamentarian to the event for men by men that will be held today at the Carnivore Grounds from 2 pm to 6 pm.

Letoo who has been vocal about the men’s conference shared that this year’s theme will be ‘creating better men.’

Further Letoo said that the mission is to have this event be one that shall run through the year with an activity-rich program for Kenyan men.

“The discussion shall be around different themes affecting men including; mental health awareness, financial empowerment, and family law,” read part of the invite.

Providing the statistics on the prevalence of mental ill health amongst men, Letoo shared that according to World Health Organization (WHO), men are more likely to die by suicide than women.

“Globally the male suicide rate is approximately three times higher than the female rate. Men are less likely than women to seek help for mental health issues due to stigma and a lack of awareness.”

“Men are also more likely to use alcohol and other substances to cope with stress and depression, which can lead to further complications and an increased risk of suicide.”

The Men’s conference happens on Valentine’s day a concept that was not originally actualized and hung in the air during the lover’s day.

Being a lover’s day, men have lamented that the day is always in honour of women leaving them behind. This led to the creation of the Men’s Conference, an event purely for men.
