Muhoozi’s ‘offer’ to build musician Tupac’s statue in the USA


Uganda President Yoweri Museveni’s son Muhoozi Kainerugaba says he is ready to build a statue of the late American rapper Tupac in his hometown.

The controversial Muhoozi, who recently announced he will contest for the presidency in the August 2022 polls, suggested he wanted to ‘help’ the Americans by building a statue of the famed musician.

Born Tupac Amaru Shakur but popularly known by his stage name 2Pac, the deceased musician is among the most popular artists of all time having sold more than 75 million records worldwide.

He was assassinated in 1996.

Muhoozi said: “If our beloved brothers and sisters in the USA have not built a great statue of the greatest African singer of our generation, I want to help. I want to build a statue of Tupac in his hometown. May the great man rest in peace!” he tweeted.

Born in 1977, 2Pac has remained a transcendental rap figure even in his death, in his film and music career. The musician was married his then-girlfriend Keisha Morris, a pre-law student in 1995, but their union was annulled ten months later.

Through his life the Dear Mama hit maker was arrested for sexaul assault and abuse. In October 1993 he was arrested in Atlanta for shooting two off-duty police officers.

A month after, he together with two other men were charged with sodomizing a woman in his hotel room. Two years after in Februray, he was sentenced to 18 months to 4 and 1/2 years in prison by a judge who decried ‘an act of brutal violence against a helpless woman.

His first film appearance was in 1991. So good was his acting skills that three more films were released starring him soon after his death. He is widely credited as an important figure in hip hop culture and his prominence in pop culture in general has been noted.

Even after his death, 2Pac has been honoured and celebrated thanks to his contribution in the music and film industries.
