Ida Odinga: This is where my husband learnt his vitendawili – VIDEO
Opposition leader Raila Odinga perfected his narration “skills” during his lengthy detention during the Nyayo era, his wife Ida has revealed.
In an exclusive interview with NTV’s Jane Ngoiri, Ida also suggested that she expected DP Ruto to “respect” Raila being his “student” in politics.
Raila spent six years in detention just after the aborted 1982 coup after being charged with treason. He was detained without trial.
The former Prime Minister has curved a niche of exciting crowds in political rallies with his “vitendawili” narrations.
BEHIND BARS
“My husband shared with me on how he spent his days behind bars,” explained Ida.
“Among the things, he read the whole Bible three times while in search for spiritual comfort. He also read slot of books, Swahili books. That’s where he learnt the Swahili and vitendawili.”
Reacting to DP Ruto’s repeated reference to Raila as “Yule jamaa wa vitendawili” (that man who is full of riddles) Ida said: “Ruto should respect Raila. He is Raila’s student in politics.”
Raila is considered President Uhuru Kenyatta’s biggest challenger ahead of the August 8 general elections.
