Idd-ul-Fitr: Friday gazetted as public holiday

The government has declared this Friday, June 15, 2018, a public holiday.

The day is to commemorate Idd-ul-fitr, an important holiday in the Muslim calendar, marking the break of fasting.

Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government Fred Matiang’i has made the declaration through powers conferred to him by Section 3 of the Public Holidays Act.

“Friday, the 15th June 2018 shall be a public holiday to accord all Kenyans and persons who profess the Islamic faith the opportunity to make preparations to mark IDD-UL-FITR on Saturday, 16th June 2018,” said the statement.

Idd-ul-Fitr is celebrated by all Muslims worldwide marking the end of Ramadhan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.
