The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is mourning the death of one of its senior officials.

“Funeral arrangements are held at his home, Ngumbe, within Kibwezi Township,” IEBC said in the statement.

It further revealed that the deceased will be buried on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at his home compound in Ngumbe.

His body is currently at the Kibwezi Funeral Home, in Kitui County.

This is the second death to hit the electoral agency in the last five months following the other death of Mr Daniel Musyoka who was the Embakasi East Returning Officer.

Before the death of Mr Musyoka, he had hinted to his cousin Mr Nicholas Musyoka that all was not well and he was planning to go into hiding.

This happened before he mysteriously went missing only for his body to be found dumped in Oloitoktok, Kajiado County.

“When I last spoke to him he expressed fear for his life saying he needed somewhere to go into hiding. I figured things were not okay for him,” Mr Nicholas said.

The deceased left the East African School of Aviation, he had interacted with three people – a woman, a bodaboda rider and his pillion passenger – before he eventually disappeared.

He was the IEBC official who oversaw the constituency’s elections in which Mr Babu Owino of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) was declared winner after garnering 53,195 votes against Mr Francis Mureithi, who garnered 26,699.

Currently, detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Embakasi Police Station are investigating four people who used the phone during the period when Mr Musyoka was reported missing and eventually found murdered.
