Igathe eyes Nairobi gubernatorial seat, KOT reacts

Polycarp Igathe is making a comeback on the political scene, a move that has left Kenyans on Twitter with much to say.

Igathe announced he will be vying for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in August 2022.

Having formerly served as Nairobi Deputy governor during Mike Sonko’s reign, Igathe told the media interview he will be contesting the seat on a Jubilee ticket.

“I’m not anyone’s project. I am the people’s project,” he said.

Igathe will likely be deputized by Tim Wanyonyi.

His announcement was supported by Solomon Kuria on Twitter, which claimed Igathe has the best brains to lead the country’s capital.

Another user suggested Raila Odinga had, by supporting Igathe, let down Wanyonyi who’d also announced his candidature.

Despite him denying it, some Kenyans still believe Igathe has been fronted by some powerful people in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government.

Another one felt Nairobi is safe with Polycarp Igathe as he has demonstrated that integrity is more important than a position of power.

Igathe’s previous reign as Nairobi Deputy governor ended after he announced his sudden resignation following a fallout with Sonko.

Other candidates eyeing the Nairobi gubernatorial seat are Richard Ngatia and Johnson Sakaja.
