Illegitimate poll – Miguna Miguna trashes Leeway Africa’s poll of top 20 MPs

Lawyer Miguna Miguna has rubbished Leeway Africa’s research on the top 20 performing MPs, describing it as an illegitimate survey.

The agency had earlier released its findings on MPs who performed well in their first eight months in office, with Embakasi East MP Babu Owino topping the 20 with 75.6%.

But Miguna said the illegitimacy of the poll stemmed from the misspelling of the MP’s name, adding that Babu could never be number one.

“This must be an illegitimate survey. Most of those named have wrong surnames like ‘Awuor’ for Aduma OWUOR; ‘Mbuyu’ for Rosa BUYU; etc,” he tweeted.

In the polls, Babu was closely followed by his Runyenjes counterpart Karemba Muchangi, who scored 72.7. Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro came third with 70.2 per cent, followed by Mogotio MP Reuben Kiborek with 70.1 per cent.

Tigania East Mpuru Aburi came fifth with 69.8%.

Miguna is not the only leader to suggest that Babu Owino does not deserve the rating. Last week, Mumias East MP Peter Salasya made the same accusation, claiming that the veteran politician had bribed his way to the rating.

This came after another research organisation, Politrack Africa, revealed that Babu Owino was rated 72.1 per cent among the top 20 performing MPs.

This became a thorn in the side of Salasya, who questioned the legitimacy of the polls.

“See Politrack Africa is a scam ata kwa twitter niko na more followers than them, ata sponsor wao Babu Owino ona ako among the few followers on their twitter handle mara hii tumewashika. Let them give us a score card…..I believe I have done a good job on the ground and for them they know I am growing politically the reason they bought a fake polling company is to intimidate me but I am focused,” he wrote on his social media handles.

In a quick rejoinder, Babu wrote: “Hon Peter Kalerwa Salasya Politrack ranked MPs based on performance track record not based on MADNESS. You were elected to work for the people, not to be a village comedian and a madman. The gods must be mad”.
