Kenyans who are in need of passports to facilitate their travel out of the country during this festive season have been asked to contact the immigration department.

The Directorate of Immigration Services boss Alexander Muteshi in a circular further asked the Kenyans to contact them through SMS or WhatsApp.

However, this was only directed to Kenyans who have pending flights and had already made applications to get passports.

“Applicants who have impending urgent travel, and have not managed to have their passports processed, are advised to contact the Directorate of Immigration Services via SMS: 0796374902 or WhatsApp Message: 0796374902,” Muteshi said in the circular.

He also asked those that make the contacts ensure that they share the numbers that are usually issued to them after making the applications.

Mr Muteshi said that the numbers should be accompanied with documentation showing that in deed they were supposed to leave the country soon.

Two weeks ago, the immigration department said it was having issues in processing passports.

Interior CS Prof Kithure Kindiki, said the department was having an issue with printer problems but they were working round the clock to solve the challenge.

On November 29, 2022, Prof Kindiki visited Nyayo House and his main agenda was to check on how the government can deal with the delays in processing of passports.

He said that the department needs Sh150million to purchase a new printing machine which will ease the process of issuing passports.

“The CS said the government is keen to streamline the issuance of passports and other immigration department services and will secure the requisite resources and reforms,” he said.

This is not the first time delays on issuing passports have been witnessed in the immigration department causing delays in travelling to Kenyans.
