Injury concerns mar Arsenal, Man United clash

By DAVID KWALIMWA November 22nd, 2014 2 min read

A face-off consisting two of the three most successful teams in English football history is certain to be the pick of the weekend as the Premier League returns after a fortnight’s break occasioned by the international matches.

The standout match will certainly be at the Emirates Stadium where Arsenal host Manchester United in a potentially explosive clash of fallen giants.

Arsenal forward Theo Walcott (groin) is a major doubt for this clash whilst former United striker Danny Welbeck (hamstring) will also be assessed along with Alexis Sanchez, who was involved in a lot of traveling while on international duty with Chile.

France forward Olivier Giroud is however back in contention after three months out with a broken leg, along with captain Mikel Arteta, who has recovered from a hamstring problem.

Defender Laurent Koscielny (Achilles), Mesut Ozil (knee), Mathieu Debuchy (ankle), goalkeeper David Ospina (thigh) and Abou Diaby (calf) are all still unavailable.

United striker Radamel Falcao will miss the game as he is still suffering from a calf injury.

In defence Marcos Rojo (shoulder), Phil Jones (shin), Jonny Evans (ankle) and Rafael (hamstring) are out while Luke Shaw is a doubt due to a groin injury.

Midfielder Michael Carrick (groin), goalkeeper David de Gea (finger) and winger Angel di Maria (foot) are expected to play despite suffering minor injuries on international duty, but midfielder Daley Blind is sidelined with a serious knee problem he sustained in Holland’s 6-0 win over Latvia last week.

In other ties slated for this weekend, Chelsea will host West Brom, Aston Villa entertain Southampton whilst Everton will tussle it out with West Ham
