‘Ino ni Momo’ hit maker dies after long illness
Popular Kikuyu musician Murimi wa Kahalf died on Thursday evening after a long illness that saw him admitted in hospital for a month.
The singer, remembered for his “Ino ni Momo” hit that received countrywide airplay, was battling a yet to be disclosed illness.
His friends in early May organised a fundraiser and called for fans to contribute via Paybill to enable them offset his hospital bill that they said had increased significantly.
Murang’a Women Representative Sabina Chege confirmed that the singer’s family had indeed lost their celebrity son.
“I wish to convey my condolences to Murimi’s family and urge them to be strong during this time,” she said.
Murimi’s hit song was released in 2011 and, after pressure from his fans, he released a video there after featuring a plus size video vixen.
Since then, he has always tagged along plus size women along in all his performances to illustrate the message in his song.
Murimi, who coined his Wakahalf stage name from his mother’s Kikuyu name Wakanuthu, always left crowds electrified during his performances.
