The burial plans for the late Vioja Mahakamani acting legend Gibson Gathu Mbugua, widely renowned as the prosecutor in the long-running Kenyan courtroom comedy show, are at an advanced stage.

According to information in Nairobi News’ possession on December 30, 2022, the late Mbugua is set to be buried at his home in Matundura village, South Kinangop in Nyandarua County. The preliminary date for the burial has been planned for January 3, 2023.

Additionally, the hospital bill for his treatment before his death amounted to “Sh 8.9 million was settled through the National Hospital Insurance Fund and ex-gratia (an in favor undertaking) by the Department of Culture where Gibson was an employer.”

In a statement by the funeral committee, this happened after intense lobbying and follow-ups by the late Gibson’s Vioja Mahakamani’s colleagues and his family members.

The late Gibson’s remains lie at the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi County after being flown in from Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County; as plans to arrange the funeral service get into high gear.

ACK Saint Catherine, Mihango, was tapped as the church that will officiate the requiem mass and the burial service because the late Gibson Gathu was an active member at the church until his death.

The late Gibson passed away on December 22, 2022, at the Mediheal Hospital in Eldoret after undergoing a kidney transplant in August 2022.

He had been hospitalized for months where he was being treated for kidney failure but was able to undergo a successful surgery after former president Uhuru Kenyatta joined Kenyans in contributing Sh 2 million in raising funds for his treatment which cost Sh 6 million at the time.

“The kidney transplant was successful and after a short stay at the hospital; and later at the cottage, our brother was discharged to go home but after a week, he was admitted again with breathing complications. When his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to the ICU where he stayed for more than three months until his demise,” read a statement from the funeral organizing committee.

Send contributions to paybill number 247247, and the account number is 777626.
