Jalang’o: I wanted to become a nurse or a police officer


Felix Odiwour, popularly known as Jalang’o, has captivated audiences with his talent and charisma.

The now Lang’ata MP endured trials before achieving stardom.

In a candid interview with Kameme FM, Jalang’o reflected on his post-high school dreams. Jalang’o disclosed his desire to pursue higher education in nursing.

His dream was shattered when his late father couldn’t afford the fees for college after he scored a C+ in his exams.

“After high school, I approached my dad… He asked me, where do I get money to take you to college? Form four is your end,” Jalang’o recalled with a mix of nostalgia and solemnity.

His yearning for education led to a period of seclusion, concealing his situation by staying indoors while his peers returned home from college.

“I used to lock myself in the house… I would come out… so people can also think I was in college,” he shared, reflecting on those challenging times.

Undeterred, Jalang’o resolved to seek opportunities, exploring career paths in nursing, law enforcement, and education.

“I tried in the police job but I did not have money to bribe people there,” he revealed.

Before gaining fame, Jalang’o toiled as a fisherman in Homabay, earning a modest wage of Ksh 160 per day.

His journey took a pivotal turn when he ventured to Nairobi in pursuit of a brighter future.

Recalling his arrival in Nairobi, Jalang’o credited his first girlfriend, Caroline Khadija Mustafa, for introducing him to the city. ‘

“I went to Nairobi for the second time… Caroline Khadija Mustafa was my first girlfriend… She was Nyabisawa girls. I love you babe; you brought me to Nairobi for the first time,” he expressed gratefully.

In Nairobi, Jalang’o navigated through different neighborhoods, drawn to the allure of Westlands and the company of like-minded individuals.

Despite facing challenges while residing with strict uncles, he got an opportunity in the theatre where he grew his acting career.

Today, Jalang’o stands as a beacon of inspiration, rising from a past marred with obstacles to become a celebrated figure in the entertainment industry.
