Jay Sandhu eyes Windsor Golf Classic title
Jay Sandhu will use this weekend’s Windsor Golf Classic as a launchpad for the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships as he targets a switch to professional ranks.
The 40-year old is among 96 golfers drawn from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and South Africa who will be battling out for the Windsor title last won by Kibugu Mutahi. The championship is set for the Windsor Golf and Country Club.
Sandhu who’s already bagged the Sigona Bowl title will be all out to add the Windsor trophy to his cabinet.
Termed as the enigma of Kenya Amateur Golf, Sandhu will once again come face to face with youthful John Lejirma whom he beat to second place in the Sigona event.
There will also be Daniel Chelogoi, Chris Andrea, and Avnish Bhandari challenging him.
Sandhu rose to the summit of Kenya’s amateur golf 17 years ago when he won the Kenya Golf Union, KGU, golfer of the year series.
“I am getting fitter and stronger. I am feeling the way I was at the age of 25. That’s why I have given myself a new challenge. I want to show these boys I am not a mzee,” he said in a recent interview.
Lejirma, 28, says he’s also focused on winning the title.
“This is yet another event I want to win and I believe I can if I stay focused,” said Lejirma who will face stiff challenge from Daniel Chelogoi, Chris Andrea, Jay Sandhu and Avnish Bhandari.
The competition is sponsored by Pernod Ricard, Apollo Tours, TMD (Isuzu dealers), MI VIDA Homes Limited and Next Technologies.
At stake is not only the trophy but a place in the Golfer of the Year Rankings.es Parliament will pass the law that allows them to vote for President so that they can go to Kyankwanzi and vote for Muhoozi.
