Jealous co-wife and husband sentenced for life after killing man’s fourth wife

A jealous co-wife and her husband will spend the rest of their lives behind bars after they colluded to kill the man’s fourth wife.

Eldoret High Court judge George Kanyi Kimondo found the two, Prince Mulando and Florence Nangila, guilty of premeditated murder of Mary Imminza Simiti on December 8, 2010 at Vilaha village, Makuyu Su-location, Mautuma Location in Lugari.

“The homicide was premeditated. I find that the second accused had a clear motive to kill the deceased to terminate the relationship with the first accused,” ruled Justice Kimondo.

“The accused acted in concert to execute the plot. I did not believe their defense at all. On the totality of the evidence of the eleven witnesses called by the Republic, I find that the charge was proved beyond reasonable doubt,” he continued entering a finding of guilty and convicting both accused for life imprisonment.

The accused persons had both pleaded not guilty but the prosecution called 11 witnesses that prompted the trial to resume.

The deceased was found lifeless to a footpath about fifty meters from the house of Mrs Nangila who is the third wife of Mr Mulando.

She had wounds, which pointed to a struggle with her assailants.

THREW A TANTRUM

The court heard that on the material night, Mrs Nangila was seen at the house of the deceased where she threw a tantrum by banging the door and throwing stones on the roof of the house.

The children of the deceased raised an alarm attracting neighbors to the scene but the husband told them that the deceased and the co-wife would not spend the night together and that one of them would die.

Evidence further pointed out that the husband was the last person seen with the deceased on the night she was murdered.

The police arrested both accused and took the body of the deceased to Webuye District Hospital Mortuary.

The accused persons were first escorted by Administration Police officers to Makutano AP camp and later detained at Turbo Police station.

The postmortem report indicated that the cause of death resulted from severe head injury. There was a linear skull fracture with intra-cerebral hemorrhage.
