Amira, the estranged wife to Jimal Marlow aka Roho Safi, the Chairman of the Association of Matatu Operators, has been hospitalized in Dubai.

In an Instagram story update, Amira uploaded a video of herself being wheeled into a hospital in Dubai to its Orthopedics and Spine Surgery, Orthotics, Rheumatology wing.

Nairobi News has established that Amira suffered a pinched nerve that left her in excruciating pain while she was out on vacation abroad.

“It’s unfortunate that I had to cut off my trip. Yesterday I got my nerve pinched on my left leg. This is caused by a herniated disc which I developed years ago. I’m experiencing extreme pain and numbness in my left leg. I can’t walk or even sit down for now but once I’m home, I’ll start with my physiotherapy. We fall but we rise again Inshallah,” wrote Amira in an earlier post on Monday.

According to the Mayo Clinic, a pinched nerve occurs when too much pressure is applied to a  nerve by surrounding tissues. These tissues may include bone and cartilage such as in the case of a herniated spinal disc as is in Amira’s case.

“If a nerve is pinched for only a short time, there’s usually no permanent damage. Once the pressure is relieved, nerve function returns to normal. However, if the pressure continues, chronic pain and permanent nerve damage can occur.” Read a statement on the clinic’s official website.

Amira expressed hope that she will get well soon. For the past few days, she has been globetrotting on vacation in locations such as Diani, Kenya, Istanbul in Turkey and Dubai, United Arab Emirates before she got injured.

The Mayo Clinic listed physical therapy as a means of treatment where one is taught exercises to strengthen muscles in the affected area. In severe cases, one is often given medication and might even end up needing surgery.
