Why JKIA was briefly closed and flights delayed
The Kenya Airports Authority temporarily shut down Jomo Kenyatta international airport (JKIA) on Thursday and ordered for a delay of all flights.
The authority shut down the airport between 11am and 12 noon to allow the military to perform drills ahead of the Mashujaa Day celebrations set for October 20.
The national carrier Kenya Airways released statement to apologise to all its travellers for the delay.
“We wish to advise our esteemed guests travelling through JKIA on Thursday 5th October that we expect slight flight delays due to Nairobi airport closure,” read part of the statement.
