JKUAT student dies mysteriously after quarrel with friends

A 22-year-old student died in unclear circumstances after an alleged disagreement with friends at private hostels near the Jomo Kenyatta University of Technology (JKUAT) in Juja.

According to the hostel’s watchman who spoke to the deceased, Malvin Eshitera’s family, the young man was visited by friends who attacked him and left him for the dead.

The late Malvin was a second year student at JKUAT pursuing Bachelors of Information Technology.

The deceased’s brother, Benson Eshitera, who narrated the ordeal to Nairobi News said it was the police who were later called in and took his brother to the Kenyatta National Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to Mr Eshitera, his late brother had disagreed with his friends over a girl but had not reported any threats on his life.

NO THREAT MESSAGES

“His phone had text messages from an ex-girlfriend over a bitter break up but there were no threat messages,” said Mr Eshitera.

The deceased’s brother added that results from a postmortem had been concealed from the family and the only information provided by the mortuary was that their kin had severe bleeding.

Mr Eshitera stated that the family was unsatisfied with the investigations adding that one of the suspects who was arrested had a t-shirt with blood stains hidden in his hostel room, information that police did not disclose.

Police are also refuting the family’s version of an existing love triangle and have accused the deceased of robbery.

Kiambu County Commander James Mugera said the student had stolen a television set before he was attacked by friends.

Five students have already been arrested in connection with the death of their colleague and are still in police custody.
