Job agent charged with fraud
A job agent has been charged with defrauding victims Sh385,000 while pretending she would secure them lucrative and well-paying jobs in Qatar and Poland respectively.
Salome Nkatha Marete was arraigned before chief magistrate Roseline Oganyo.
Nkatha who was represented by a city lawyer denied three counts filed against her by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji through a state prosecutor Desmond Majale.
Nkatha, the jobs agent based at Ambank House in Nairobi, was accused of defrauding relatives of Peter Kihara Ndichu, Divinah Ntabo Nyamira and Naomi Wambua alleging she would assist them secure lucrative job opportunities overseas.
Ms Oganyo heard on February 12m 2021 Nkatha obtained Sh65,000 from Ndichu Kihara alleging she would assist his son Peter Kihara Ndichu secure a job at Qatar.
On diverse dates between March and October 2021, Nkatha allagedly obtained Sh190,000 from Michael Katiech Oyondi to assits Divinah secure a job in Poland.
On October 22, 2021 at Ambank House with intend to defraud obtained Sh130,000 from Naomi Wambua to assist her secure a job in Qatar.
Nkatha applied to be freed on bond which Majale did not oppose.
Ms Ogonya released the suspect on bond of Sh300,000.
The case will be mentioned within a fortnight for pre-trial directions.
Oganyo directed the prosecutor to furnish the accused with all witness statements to prepare her defence.
