Joho accorded heroic reception in Kisumu
Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho’s political star within the Orange Democratic Movement continues to shine, following his heroic reception in Kisumu town on Friday.
Mr Joho is in the lakeside city – which has for long been the stronghold of partly leader Raila Odinga – as part of his continuous drive to popularize the party ahead of the 2017 General Elections.
The Governor, who is also the deputy party leader, has already presided over similar events in the recent past, including party activities in his native Mombasa and Nairobi Counties – which both attracted massive attendance from party supporters.
Another planned rally in Eldoret – which is the turf of Deputy President William Ruto – however failed to materialize.
WARM RECEPTION
“I am overwhelmingly honored by the warm reception accorded to me by my brothers, Kisumu Governor H.E Ranguma, Senators Anyang Nyong’o and James Orengo together with the entire Kisumu County leadership and its residents,” the Mombasa Governor posted on his official Facebook page.
During his two day visit to Kisumu, Joho is set to preside over a number of political activities, including hosting a delegates conference, a roadshow and political rally.
Political analysts view Joho’s recent activities as a strategy to not only market the party, but also to position himself as a Odinga’s running mate in 2017.
Joho, however, faces increasing political opposition in his turf, from Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar and Nyali legislator Hezron Awiti who have announced their intentions of joining forces and unseating him, should he opt to defend his Gubernatorial seat.
