Jubilee MP arrested in Malindi amid voter bribery claims

A Member of Parliament affiliated to the Jubilee coalition was arrested in a polling station in Malindi as voting got underway on Monday.

Mwea MP Peter Njuguna Gitau was arrested at the Sir Ali Primary School amid claims he was bribing voters.

He was seized by ODM MPs Aisha Jumwa, Irshad Sumra and Robert Challo and handed over to the police.

The police detained the Mwea MP briefly at the Malindi town police station before driving him away to a yet to be known location.

The arrest came moments after ODM communication’s director, Mr Phillip Etale, was arrested in his hotel room.

Mr Etale was arrested at about 1am and his laptop confiscated, according to security sources.

And Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu was ejected from a polling station as voting got under way at the Central Primary School polling station.

Mr Waititu was thrown out after other agents complained that he was involved in “suspicious activities’.’

Mr Waititu went to the station as an agent for the Jubilee Alliance Party candidate, but Presiding Officer Caleb Mogere told him that he needed to have a badge identifying him as such.
