Ensure justice for slain Carol Ngumbu too, urges Makau Mutua

Controversial columnist Makau Mutua has urged justice for the young woman who was killed alongside IEBC ICT manager Chris Msando.

Caro Ngumbu, 21, was found murdered alongside Mr Msando in a thicket in Kikuyu on Saturday morning.

But while there has been uproar over Mr Msando’s death, most Kenyans have been silent on Ms Ngumbu.

President Uhuru Kenyatta was the first to mourn the woman in his first statement since the incident.

“We are all deeply shocked and saddened by the murder of Chris Msando and Caro Ngumbu. I join in prayer with their families, and of every Kenyan of good will,” he said.

Later, Prof Mutua tweeted that justice should prevail in Caro’s murder too.

Carol had just finished studies at Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Karen branch and was due to graduate in December.

Her sister Jedida Wanjiku told journalists that she last spoke to the deceased on Friday at around 7pm when she told her that she was going to have a few drinks with Mr Msando.

The two had had lunch together at a fast food joint in the city centre. Afterwards, Jedida went to get supplies for her business while Caro left for some errands.

Caro would later call her at 7 pm to say that she was hanging out with Mr Msando.

Jedida said Caro and Ms Msando had known each other for months, but denied they had an affair.
