Kabogo charged over ‘circumcision’ slur

Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has been summoned to appear in court on August 5 to answer charges of ethnic contempt in relation to remarks he made last year.

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) on Friday filed a case of ethnic contempt against the governor before Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo at the Milimani Law Courts.

The case was filed through the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

And as a consequence, Mr Ogembo ordered Mr Kabogo to appear in court on August 5, 2016 to plead to the charge.

The charge states that he uttered words intended to incite feelings of contempt against persons and communities of persons in Kenya that do not ethnically embrace male circumcision.

It further states that on November 25, 2015,  Mr Kabogo urged “the media to inform Raila to put a stop to his stupid actions.”

The charge also quotes Mr Kabogo as alleging he has “enough money to defend himself in court.”
