Kahawa West man dies after falling into pit-latrine

A 28-year-old man died after a pit latrine collapsed as he was taking shelter inside within Kiwanja Area in Kahawa West Estate, Nairobi County.

Mr Isaac Nyongesa was in the company of another man who police identified as Mr Peter Ndegwa,45, when the toilet they were standing in collapsed.

Police say that the incident took place on the night of November 21, 2023, when the rains were ongoing in different parts of the country.

“The toilet collapsed while the two men were inside and taking shelter from the heavy rains,” a police report revealed.

Locals heard the two men wailing as they called for help and it was then that a rescue mission on the same was launched.

They were later joined by the police after they were informed of what had transpired. The body of the deceased which was then buried in a sludge was also retrieved.

“We urge everyone to be cautious of the rains. We are experiencing some incidents of drowning at homes which can be avoided,” Mr Adamson Bungei said.

Residents in Nairobi woke up to wet streets and roads as heavy rains went on pounding various parts of the country.

In some parts of the city, the rains started on Monday night while in other places it rained in the early morning hours.

In the Central Business District, the roads and streets remained wet with few places spotted with stagnant water.

Since Tuesday, even hawkers have been experiencing challenges due to the ongoing rains. The weatherman has predicted the country will continue to soak in rain this week.
